New AHEA scholarships aim to overcome shortages in trained childcare staff
The
Board of Directors of the Australian Higher Education Academy have
announced the implementation of a scholarship programme aimed at
reducing the shortage of trained staff in Perth's childcare centres.
The scholarships are directed at trainees undertaking their training
through one of the Australian Government's Traineeships with AHEA.
The scholarships cover student's fees for half the duration of
the nominal term of the traineeship.
What does this mean for the Trainee?
Trainees
can save a considerable amount of money by completing their training
through AHEA. Government rules require trainees to pay fees based
on the nominal hours required to complete the course of study. They
also allow trainees to complete their training in half the nominal
amount of time. For example, if a part-time employee commences a
traineeship (Certificate III in Children's Services) with a nominal
period of 18 months, normally the fees they would have to pay would be $771 and they could complete their training in 9 months.
Under the scholarship programme with AHEA, the trainee would pay no
fees if they completed their training in the nine month period. If you
want more details of this offer, simply contact AHEA for a consultant
to call and explain all the options.
Have you got experience but no qualifications?
The
Australian Higher Education Academy has developed a simple to follow
process that allows your experience to be assessed towards a Nationally
Recognised Qualification. The process is referred to as
Facilitated Recognition.
What is Facilitated Recognition?
Facilitated
recognition is an assessment process which recognises
existing skills and knowledge that have been acquired through life and work
experience before a specific program of training and assessment is recommended.
The process of facilitated
recognition enables learners to gain recognition for what they already know and
can do. You may already be skilled in
many areas of the qualification you are undertaking. You may for example:
- have a history of valuable work
experience in the industry;
- have obtained skills and
knowledge through formal or informal training;
- have developed competence
outside the workplace through life experience.
- attend
training sessions
targeted to meet your specific learning needs and complete your
preparations for assessments against any remaining, or all, of the
units of competence.
What does Facilitated Recognition cost?
Each
individual application for Facilitated Recognition is different. Our
process involves close consultation with potential applicants before
they commit to it. The first meeting with the consultant is free and at
this meeting, the consultant will discuss the applicant's experience,
demonstrate the Facilitated Recognition kit to applicants and answer
all questions related to the application. Only then can applicants
enrol in the process. The cost of the application is dependant on the
qualification level being applied for. It covers the cost of the kit, 2
pre-assessment meetings with the assessor and the final assessment of
the application. A Certificate III in Children's Services application
costs a total of $850 ($200 enrolment and $650 in Assessment fees). A
Diploma of Children's Services costs $1050 ($200 enrolment and $850 in
Assessment fees). These fees do not cover any additional study that may
be required to complete the qualification and are not refundable.
Should
you wish to explore the possibility of having your experience
recognised, contact the Academy for a free consultation with one of our
assessors.
